NUC Upgrades Kano College of Education to University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the upgrade of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education in Kumbotso, Kano state, to a university.

Abubakar Rasheed, NUC’s executive secretary, presented a letter of recognition of the institution to Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano governor, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Rasheed said the institution will be the 61st state-owned varsity and the 221st university in the country.

“Having met the consequence of the requirement upon the receipt of your letter and the former presentation of necessary documents, I write on behalf of NUC that with effect from Tuesday, February 14, 2023, Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education is recognized as the 61st state and 221st university Nigeria,” he said.

”By this recognition letter, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been notified of the establishment of this university.”

In his remark, Ganduje said the new institution makes it the third university owned by the state government.

The two others, according to him, are Yusuf Maitama Sule University and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.

The governor said the new institution was established to meet the growing demands for education in the state as well as to produce high-level manpower.

Ganduje assured the NUC that “adequate preparation has been put in place for the students to complete their studies as the life of the college of education comes to an end”.
