UNILAG Fee Hike: Lagos CP Intervenes in Students' Planned Protest

Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Idowu Owohunwa, has intervened in the planned protest by the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), University of Lagos chapter, over hike in school fees.

A statement on Twitter by police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed this yesterday.

Hundeyin said the students had planned to demonstrate today, but were invited by the police boss for discussion, with a view to finding ways around the protest.

He said the students’ delegation led by Alimi Idris met with the commissioner at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, adding that after discussions, the students agreed to shelve their planned protest.

Hundeyin said the CP promised to meet with the vice chancellor of the university to discuss their demands and grievances, adding that a Police-Student Relations Committee (PSRC) was set up and would begin work immediately.
