Digital skills are the new B.sc's. Believe it or not, learning a digital skill is very important to stay relevant in today's job market. Companies are now looking for individuals who are skilled in various spheres of work. While a degree is still obviously important, learning a skill would ensure that you are always one step ahead of the job hunting pack. What's more? You can learn a skill faster than you can get a degree!

People may decide not to learn a particular skill or skills because it can be expensive. That is, it would demand resources that aren't readily available (e.g, a laptop or maybe payment for classes). However, not all digital skills require this amount of effort. So, here are 3 skills you can learn using only your smartphone.

Copywriting and Content writing are different in their own right though they are essentially birds of the same feather. Be it marketing, education or entertainment. Copywriters are needed more in the commercial industry space because they are responsible for generating leads and persuading the customer to buy. Content writers can also work for companies. Their skillset is however more suited for fields like journalism, blogging, research, education and entertainment.

There are a lot of FREE courses on educational websites such as Youtube, Udemy, Coursera, Alison and Skillshare. E-libraries like Project Guternberg, Internet Archive and Open Library also provide free materials and pdfs to download. All you have to do is search!

Think Meta (Facebook), Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter and Threads. What is one distinguishing feature between these apps? Thats right, their logos. As a graphic designer, you’ll learn how to make logos and more. It involves creating and using designs to convey ideas or pass a message. This particular skill is in high demand because businesses are always looking to engage with their customers. Churches also task graphic designers with creating flyers for events. The pay here generally depends on skill level. However, even intermediate graphic designers charge anywhere between N5,000 -10, 000 per job. Now imagine you get 10 -15 contracts in a week or two. Not bad eh?
