LAUTECH gets approval to admit more medical students

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has increased admission quota for the medical programme of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state, from 75 to 120.

NAN reports that Olalekan Fadeyi, the institution’s principal assistant registrar, announced the increase in a statement on Wednesday.

Fadeyi said the directive was contained in a letter with reference number MDCN/525/vol.iv/274 and dated February 27, 2023.

The letter was signed by Tajudeen Sanusi, MDCN’s registrar, and addressed to the vice-chancellor of the institution.

The development comes weeks after Seyi Makinde, the state governor, constituted a task force to reposition the medical programme of the institution.

Fadeyi said the task force, led by Juwon Arotiba, was mandated to recommend ways to improve the medical programme at LAUTECH.

He added that the special task force was also instructed to look into the situation of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and come up with suggestions on how to raise standard of training medical doctors.

In his remark, Mojeed Liasu, the acting vice-chancellor of the institution, commended the MDCN for the increase in admission quota for medical students.

Liasu also thanked Makinde and Deji Omole, chairman of LAUTECH’s governing council.

Liasu reiterated the university management’s commitment to stay truthful to rules and regulations in its medical programme.
