JAMB Launches Platform for Admission, Accreditation Issues in Tertiary Institutions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced an online platform to facilitate speedy resolution of accreditation and admission-related issues between tertiary institutions and regulatory agencies.

Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, announced the Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) on Monday during a meeting with with regulatory agencies and tertiary institutions in Abuja.

Oloyede said the initiative, which would be implemented as from January 1, 2023, would end the trend of using letters for requests and approval between the agencies and institutions.

The JAMB registrar said as from January, all admission-related enquires to the board would strictly be done through IBASS.

“We discovered that we spend our time attending to letters from some major stakeholders of the board and the major stakeholders are essentially regulatory agencies: NUC, NBTE and NCCE. Apart from these stakeholders, we also receive from 890 institutions across the country,” he said.

“Essentially, the regulatory agencies appeal to us for approval of new programmes and accreditation of programmes. And what we receive from institutions is essentially about admission and registration or accreditation of new courses or quota issues.

“With this platform, if NUC approves admission quota, it would be centralised in such a way that as soon as you see approved, everybody will see it and there is no need to write to JAMB.

“Before now, registrars of institutions had no say that they have been complaining that they want to fail to know what the what they are doing and a platform has been created for them they may not be able to effect changes but will see everything.”

Oloyede said the initiative followed the success of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) introduced in 2017 to centralise and automate admission processes between candidates and their preferred tertiary institutions.

He said with the platform, tertiary institutions can now notify the board and regulatory agencies of their admission quota and requirements as well as the list of courses they offer.

Oloyede added that the platform will also offer regulatory agencies the opportunity to update the accreditation status of institutions and their programmes or courses accredited for them to offer from time to time.
