WAEC To Launch Platform Allowing Recovery Of Burnt, Lost Certificates

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) is set to launch a digital certificate platform.

Patrick Areghan, the head of its national office in Nigeria, spoke about the initiative on Tuesday in Lagos.

The WAEC head also said the platform would apply to people who wrote its exams from 1999 till date.

He disclosed that the new digital certificate cannot be tampered with or falsified as it would send forgers out of the market.

Areghan said the platform would also allow for instant access to results, guarding against certificate loss or theft.

“Whether your certificate was burnt or lost to flood or eaten by termite, you don’t have to go through the stress of recovering it. Log on to our website and it comes straight from the WAEC database,” he said.

“We have solved the problem of theft. We have saved you the headache of carrying the hard copies of your certificate.

“And the good thing that will come out of this is, by the time we take a final decision and perfect everything if we release the results today, I can tell you that the certificates are ready. It is just to roll them out.”

When unveiled, individuals, educational institutions, and organisations will be able to confirm the genuineness of any WAEC certificate on the digital platform.

The platform can be operated on Android and IOS devices.
