Somtochi Amuche Breaks Academic Record In FUTO, Becomes First Female 1st Class Engineering Graduate

 

Somtochi Stella Amuche has broken the 41-year-old academic record of the Federal University of Technology Owerri by becoming the first female student to bag a first class in the Engineering Department of the prestigious institution.

The first class engineering graduate is the second child of Dr. Onyekwere Okpara, a former Rector of Abia State Polytechnic and Mrs. Chinwe Ijeoma Okpara a Banker.

She started her journey to getting a degree in Electrical Engineering six years ago when she emerged as the best graduating student from the Regina Paris College, Abuja with 8 A’s (Distinction ) in the 2015 West African Examination Council.

In the same 2015, Somtochi’s academic prowess was recognized when she received the National University Commission Award in excellence as the best graduating secondary school student in the Federal Capital Territory.

In May 2019, her brilliance was again recognized as she was among the nine exceptionally gifted students picked randomly globally to participate in the Google Andela Learning Community (ALC) Programme in Information Communications Technology/Artificial Intelligence.

The programme was held in Mountain View, California, United States.
